All over the world, English is the accepted language for many forms of international communication. Choosing to teach English abroad puts you into a fast-moving, high-demand job that can take you almost anywhere.

If you have a sense of adventure and love the idea of a job that takes you to another country, you should seriously consider this career path. It’s sure to be a unique and enriching experience.

If you Want to Teach English…

If you’re considering this as a future career, chances are you already know that you’ll be away from home for a while. Most schools will hire you on a contract, which will be at least a year long. Keep in mind that your students will need their teacher to be there for the entire term!

If you’re teaching at a private school, or if you’re hired by a corporation to teach business English to their executives, your contract may differ. Nonetheless, to make the entire trip lucrative you should plan on staying awhile. After all, it took you a lot of work to get there in the first place.

What to Expect

Your salary will largely depend on what country you decide to travel to. Obviously, some locales offer higher salaries than others, but that shouldn’t always be the determining factor for where you teach. For instance, Mexico, a country notorious for low salaries offers a rich culture, low living expenses and students dedicated to learning. On the other hand, Japan, a country known for its higher salaries has a cost of living higher than most. Remember, you won’t always get rich doing this job, but you will almost always walk away rich in experiences!

The good news is, many schools and universities can and will supply you with free housing during the term of your employment. This can eliminate one of the biggest hassles about teaching abroad, which is finding an affordable place to live. Particularly if you’re in a large metro area, rent can kill you (and kill your teacher’s salary, too). If you get offered a job with free housing included, snap it up. Finding a Job

Giving general advice on finding a job teaching English is difficult. The reason for that is because your efforts are going to vary widely by country. In some areas, you’ll need to be hired months in advance; other countries might need to meet you before they’ll even consider hiring you.

Our best advice here is to prepare to do some legwork. Talk to your college (and any other college in the area) regarding sister school programs and other resources they may have to get you overseas. Don’t forget about the various job boards that list available teaching positions by country—this is perhaps the best way of finding a job because each listing will provide the exact requirements of that particular employer. If you’re certified in TOEFL or ESL, you’ll find the road is paved a lot smoother for you.

Do keep in mind, regardless of where you’re looking for a job, that you do have some choice in the matter. Don’t assume that the first school that offers you a position is the one you should take. Qualified and enthusiastic teachers are in demand, so you should be as choosey about the position you take as they are about the teacher they hire!

Choosing to teach English abroad is a big decision. If you’re sure it’s the right choice for you, the sooner you start preparing the better off you will be. Remember, the best way to avoid personal bankruptcy altogether is to try to live within your means. Don’t open multiple charge accounts or purchase luxury items that you don’t really need. There is nothing wrong with rewarding yourself, with a small gift, from time to time. Just don’t overdo it!

Russia is truly the land of unlimited opportunities where with the right connection and decisions everyone can become a millionaire or even a billionaire. Well it may sound cheesy, but as they say in Russia everything is possible.

Russia is the largest country in the world as it covers two continents – Europe and Asia. Its has a very colorful historical background by being founded by Vikings, ruled by various tsars, the wrath of both World Wars and almost hundred year rule of communists. Today Russia is a democratic, yet very controversial country with a population of more than 140 million which is actually not that much considering the territory of Russia. Due to the large territory Russia has the biggest reserve of natural resources in the world including oil, natural gas, minerals and chemicals. Most of the Russian population live in the European part of Russia. Moscow is the capital of Russia with more than 10 million people calling it their home; it is also the largest city in Europe and 7th largest in the world. On the other the population in Siberia is very sparse with most population concentrated in the biggest cities such as Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk and Omsk. But Siberia is also the place with all the valuable resources and although the average wage in Russia is quite low, people who are willing to work in the harsh conditions receive a good salary.

The main problems in Russia are corruption and criminal situation. Conducting successful business without the right connections might be quite difficult. Corruption is very wide spread even up to the highest chain of government. But in a way it can be understandable and it is symptomatic fore all Post – Soviet nations. After the fall of the Soviet Union people were suddenly exposed to almost unlimited opportunities and they use every possible tool to succeed in this new world order.

Nevertheless Russia is a wonderful country with a lot to see and experience. Some of the world’s greatest artists are from Russia, they have wonderful music and their cosine is something special. And let’s not forget the Vodka which is a crucial part of the Russian soul.

Whatever you might think of Russia remember one thing, in a way it is yet a very young country – a teenager among other democratic countries. Let’s give Russia the time to mature.

The findings of Global Management Pay Report, published by Hay Group, was released recently and it was revealed that the manager in Singapore command the third highest disposable income in Asia besides the relatively high cost of living. The higher disposable income enjoyed by manager is attributable to the low tax rates and inflation. Also the pay gap between the managers and the clerical staff has widened. The findings underscore the fact that the demand for managerial talent in the island state far outweighs the supply thus driving the salaries of managers higher in spite of the recession. On a global level, Singapore’s level of managerial disposable income only comes in at 27th position on the Management Spending Power Index. But most of the recession impacted economies such as US, UK, Western Europe etc rank much lower in the index due to higher tax rates and cost of living. However the gap in income between the managers and clerical staff has increased only slightly, that is to five times from 4.9 times last year. The Singapore government had instituted proactive measures to control the gulf between the pay scales. The Global Management Pay Report was calculated using PayNet data on median total cash, and taking into account cost of living and taxes to reveal disposable income levels for 56 countries in North America, South America, Africa, Europe and Asia Pacific. The report provides a snapshot of two key indicators of the global talent market: managerial spending power and the pay gap between management and clerical workers. As for the Asian region Hong Kong and Thailand hold the first two positions respectively in the index. Shortage of talent, especially at the middle to top management levels creates a need for the island state to also import foreign talent. While the government leaves no stones unturned to hone the skills of the local human resources it also competes with the other developed and developing economies to attract the cream of talent.
